Lancaster 19, Staten Island 5

If the Lancaster Barnstormers experienced any doldrums the night after wrapping up the second half North title, they did not last long.

Lancaster scored a season-high 19 runs, knocking out 22 hits, in a 19-5 romp over the Staten Island FerryHawks, as the ‘Stormers won for the 10^th straight time at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The win brought the Barnstormers to a .500 record (62-62) on the season.

Two unearned runs scored off Jared Lakind (9-4) in the top of the first, and the Barnstormers left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning.

From there, the Barnstormers partied for the second straight night.

Shawon Dunston, Jr. opened the second with a line drive homer off Nick Beardsley (2-7).  Anthony Peroni followed with a double, but the true barrage happened with two outs.  Ariel Sandoval lined an RBI double to the gap in right center.  Chad Sedio drove home two with a triple to deep right center as Lancaster surged ahead, 4-2.  Sedio scored when Trayvon Robinson doubled down the right field line.

The attack continued into the third when Trace Loehr and Melvin Mercedes cracked one-out singles and scored on a two-run triple to left center by Chris Proctor.  Lancaster made it 8-3 on a sac fly by Sandoval before Sedio and Robinson unloaded consecutive home runs off two different pitchers.

By the time the night ended, everyone in the Lancaster lineup had at least two total bases.  The team slapped around 22 hits, including six doubles, two triples and the three homers.  Sedio had a shot at the cycle but missed the single, instead walking twice.  Robinson had one of his biggest nights in six seasons as a Barnstormer, going 5-for-6 with five RBI.

Lakind worked long enough to earn the win, allowing six hits and five runs in his five innings.  The lefty walked three and struck out six.  Three relievers, Bret Clarke, Chandler Brierley and Garrett Granitz combined to toss four hitless innings.

The Barnstormers will send right-hander Dominic DiSabatino (5-8) to the hill on Sunday afternoon against right-hander Ryan Mitschele (0-2).  The team will sign autographs from 12:00-12:20.  Fans may tune in on FloBaseball, beginning at 12:55.

NOTES:  The 22 hits was one shy of the team’s season-high, set in the first game of the second half…Lancaster rested SS Yeison Coca, 3B Andretty Cordero and 1B Wilson Garcia…Robinson had the second five-hit game by a Barnstormer this season…Cordero had the other in that July 8 contest against Spire City…The 10-game winning streak at home is one shy of last year’s 11-game skein early in the second half.

High Point 7, Long Island 3

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 16, 2023) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the High Point Rockers 7-3 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

High Point took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on Zander Wiel’s solo home run to left field and Shed Long Jr.’s RBI single to left off Ducks starter Justin Alintoff. Long Island tied the game at two in the bottom of the inning on Joe DeCarlo’s RBI single to left and a throwing error that plated Brantley Bell.

Quincy Latimore’s two-run homer to left in the fifth put the Rockers back on top 4-2. High Point tacked on their fifth run in the seventh on a wild pitch that scored Ben Aklinski. Sam Travis closed the gap to two in the eighth with a two-out RBI double down the left field line, but a wild pitch that scored Latimore and an RBI single by Brian Parreira in the ninth pushed High Point’s advantage to 7-3.

Rockers starter Mickey Jannis (14-5) earned the win, tossing five innings of two-run ball, allowing five hits and three walks while striking out four. Alintoff (2-3) took the loss, conceding four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings with two strikeouts.

Travis led the Ducks offense with two hits and an RBI.

The Ducks and Rockers wrap up their three-game set and the 2023 regular season on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s Fan Appreciation Day featuring the Winning Inning Contest, presented by Coca-Cola. One lucky fan in the ballpark will win a special prize during each inning of the ballgame, courtesy of Coca-Cola. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union! Prior to the game, fans will be invited down for a Catch on the Field from 12:40 to 1:00. After the game, fans of all ages are also invited to take part in Kids Run the Bases. Right-hander Augie Voight (0-1, 15.63) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Rockers righty Joe Johnson (0-0, 5.28).

York 15, Spire City 4

York unleashed an 18-hit attack including three home runs in downing Spire City 15-4 Saturday night at WellSpan Park. Trey Martin, Jhon Nunez and Richard Urena each homered with Nunez coming with the bases loaded in the third. J.T. Hintzen (W, 10-7) tossed a complete game for the Revs, walking three and striking out six. Matt Reitz (L, 3-1) took the loss for the Ghost Hounds.

Charleston 5, So. Maryland 1

Charleston beat So. Maryland 5-1 Saturday night at GoMart Park. Juan Carlo Perez and Zach Racusin each drove in two runs with Racusin blasting a two-run homer in the sixth. Matt Hibbert had two hits and the Blue Crabs’ lone RBI. Ryan Clark (W, 2-3) went six innings for the Dirty Birds. McKenzie Mills (L, 4-4) took the loss.

Gastonia 2, Lexington 1

Zach Jarrett drove in a run in the first inning and Gastonia added the go-ahead run in the fifth in a 2-1 win over Lexington. Brett Daniels (W, 7-1) struck out five in his six innings of work. Robbie Ross, Jr. (L, 0-2) struck out seven over five innings.

Thomas Dillard homered in the fourth inning, his league-leading 39^th round-tripper of the season.
