Atlantic League Results, Friday, September 1, 2023Long Island 2, Lancaster 1 (Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 1, 2023) – The Long Island Ducks defeated Lancaster Barnstormers 2-1 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. Neither side dented home plate until the bottom of the seventh inning when the Ducks broke through for a pair of runs. An RBI single to right field by Sam Travis and an RBI single up the middle by Carlos Castro gave the Flock a 2-0 lead. Lancaster scratched out a run in the eighth when Melvin Mercedes scored from second base on a sacrifice bunt by Yeison Coca. However, they could not pull even. Ducks starter Robert Stock took a no-decision but fired six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and three walks while striking out four. Jake Fishman (1-0) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless seventh inning, striking out two. Brent Teller (10-6) took the hard-luck loss, as the Barnstormers starter threw seven innings of two-run ball, giving up four hits and a walk while striking out six. Jose Jose collected his third save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Travis led the Ducks offense with two hits and a run batted in. The Ducks and Barnstormers continue their four-game series on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the ballpark, and the Ducks will be wearing special pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off on the LiveSource Mobile App. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Uncle Giuseppe’s. It’s also a Lucky Seat Saturday, presented by Long Island MacArthur Airport. During the game, the Ducks will be selecting a lucky fan in the ballpark, who will win two roundtrips on Breeze Airways to any of their six non-stop destinations from MacArthur Airport. Right-hander Joe Iorio (4-8, 6.93) takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers lefty Jared Lakind (8-3, 3.54).
York 7, High Point 3 HIGH POINT, N.C. – The York Revolution claimed a 7-3 win over the High Point Rockers in the opener of a three-game series on Friday night in front of 2,611 fans at Truist Point. Down 2-0 in the second, the Rockers scored three times to take a 3-2 lead. Zander Wiel and Quincy Latimore started the inning with singles before Robbie Kellerman was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Michael Martinez then cleared the bases with a triple to right-center. The Revs came back in the fourth, getting a sac fly by Alexis Pantoja and another run on a balk by High Point starter Craig Stem (L, 2-2). A solo homer by York’s Richard Urena gave the Revs a 5-3 lead in the sixth. York would add single runs in the seventh and ninth innings to complete their scoring. High Point finished the night with nine hits to York’s 10. Tom Sutera (W, 9-6) earned the win with six innings of work, walking one and striking out three. Stem went six innings and allowed seven hits and five runs while striking out six. Game two of the series with York will start at 6:35 p.m. Saturday at Truist Point. Charleston 19, Staten Island 10 Charleston’s Isaias Tejeda hit two home runs and drove in four runs while teammate Telvin Nash knocked home five runs in the Dirty Birds’ 19-10 win over Staten Island on Friday night in the series opener between the two clubs. Tejeda hit a solo homer in in the fifth and a two-run shot in the eighth. Nash hit a two-run double, drew a bases-loaded walk, and added a two-run single. Danny Wirchansky earned the win to improve to 6-5 with nine strikeouts in five innings.
Gastonia 5, Southern Maryland 2 Gastonia won its fifth straight game with a 5-2 win over visiting Southern Maryland. Gunnar Kines improved to 11-4 by allowing just two hits over 6.2 innings. Jake Hoover homered for the second straight game and drove in four runs with three hits. Jack Reinheimer also homered for the Honey Hunters. Jimmy Kerrigan hit his third homer in the last two games with a two-run shot in the second inning.
Lexington 6, Spire City 4 (13 innings) Tied at 1-1 after nine innings, the Lexington Counter Clocks used a two-run homer from Andrew Moritz to claim the 6-4 walk-off win in 13 innings.
