The FerryHawks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers by a score of 4-0 on Saturday night in Staten Island. It was Italian Heritage night at the ballpark and the 2,456 fans partied hard from the opening of the gates to the last fireworks. New York native and America’s Got Talent Season 11 finalist, Sal “The Voice” Valentinetti sang the National Anthem to kick off a night to remember!

It didn’t take long for the scoring to start in this one as Angel Aguilar hit a towering shot over the left field wall in the bottom of the 1^st to make it 1-0 FerryHawks. In the 4^th, former Nippon Professional Baseball superstar, Yoshi Tsutugo crushed his third homerun in five games to give the FerryHawks a 2-0 lead. The power hitting lefty is showcasing the power that led him to becoming the fastest player in Yokohama DeNA BayStars history to reach 100, 150, and 200 homeruns.

In the bottom of the 5^th, Jack Elliott picked up his team leading 15^th homerun of the year to extend the lead to 3-0. A Chris Brito RBI tacked on one more to make it 4-0, the score the FerryHawks would ultimately win by.

It was an outstanding effort from starter Ryan Hartman who picked up the win in this one and posted a final line of 7 innings, 6 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. He was relieved by Staten Island native, Vin Aiello and former Texas Ranger, Pedro Payano. The duo combined for 2 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, and 2 strikeouts.

The FerryHawks wrap up this series today and it is Marvel Super Hero Day at the ballpark! Captain America will be making a special character appearance, kids run the bases after the game, and there will be a limited-edition Marvel/FerryHawks poster giveaway.

High Point 6, Long Island 1
HIGH POINT, N.C. – High Point starting pitcher Brandon Leibrandt made his best start of the season, going five innings and limiting Long Island to just three hits as the Rockers took game two of the series by a 6-1 final score in front of a crowd of 2,045 at Truist Point on Saturday night.

Leibrandt (W, 1-2) went five innings and yielded just three hits while walking one and striking out three. Neil Ramirez came on in the sixth and allowed a single run in the eighth before Cam Bedrosian and Austin Ross recorded the last four outs of the game.

Zander Wiel put the Rockers on the scoreboard when he led off the bottom of the second with a double to left-center and scored on a single by Michael Martinez to give the Rockers a 1-0 lead.

The Rockers put up four runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 5-0. Franklin Van Gurp replaced Ducks’ starter Justin Courtney (L, 0-2) to start the inning and hit Beau Taylor in the foot with a pitch then walked Daikan Yoh. A single by Brian Parreira put the Rockers up 2-0. Michael Martinez then grounded back to Van Gurp whose throw to second to try and start a double play sailed into center field, allowing Yoh to score. D.J. Burt followed with a single that brought home both Parreira and Martinez for a 5-0 lead.

Long Island plated its lone run in the eighth inning when Brian Goodwin slapped a one-out double and scored on a single by Brantley Bell. Ben Aklinski saved another run with a diving catch of a sinking line drive in right to rob Alejandro De Aza of a base hit that would have scored another run. After Ramirez hit Sam Travis with a pitch, Bedrosian was summoned from the bullpen and he struck out pinch-hitter Boog Powell to end the inning.

High Point added an insurance run in the eighth when Taylor singled and pinch-runner John Daly stole second. Yoh then singled up the middle as Daly raced home to give the Rockers a 6-1 lead.

Courtney (L, 0-2) went three innings and allowed four hits and one run with no walks and two strikeouts.

Taylor was the only Rocker with two hits in the nine-hit attack. Burt’s two RBI were also a team-best.

The Rockers improved to 56-31 overall and 15-9 in the second half while Long Island, the North Division first half champion, fell to 11-13 and 48-39.

With Gastonia’s win over Lexington on Saturday night, the Honey Hunters are now 13-10 in the second half, 1.5 games behind High Point.

The third and final game of the series between the Rockers and Ducks is slated for a 4:05 p.m. start on Sunday at Truist Point. The game will be streamed live on FLO Baseball and also available on the Mixlr app.

Spire City 9, York 7

(August 5th, 2023 – York, Pa.):  The York Revolution erased one four-run deficit but fell just shy of answering the second, as a pair of four-run innings helped the Spire City Ghost Hounds to a 9-7 victory on Saturday night in front of 5,211 fans at WellSpan Park.

Andrew Cabezas took the mound to attempt to halt the Revs’ first two-game skid in over a month, as he went up against David Kubiak for Spire City.

York scored first, getting a sac fly from Nellie Rodriguez, making it 1-0 Revs in the bottom of the second.

Spire City put up its first four spot of the game in the third against Cabezas. RBI hits from Craig Dedelow and Jose Marmolejos preceded a two-out, bloop two-run hit by Steven Brault which made it 4-1 Hounds.

Spire City added one more on an Eddy Diaz RBI single in the fourth as it was a 5-1 lead for the visitors.

The frustrating start to the game boiled over when Rodriguez was ejected after the fourth inning by plate umpire Doug McFarling following a strike out. It may have sparked the Revs who erupted for a four-run frame of their own, tying the game at 5-5 in the fifth.

The outburst started as Ryan January smoked a home run to left center off Kubiak, cutting the deficit to 5-2 on January’s fifth home run in his last 11 games. Alexis Pantoja followed with a double to left, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a wild pitch making it 5-3. Tomo Otosaka singled and Troy Stokes Jr. promptly tied the game with a moonshot to left center clearing the playground for a game tying two-run bomb.

Spire City answered right away with another four-run inning. A single and an error set up a tie-breaking three-run homer to left center by Leobaldo Cabrera, his 27th of the year, chasing Cabezas (1-1) as the Ghost Hounds retook the lead at 8-5.

Nick Parker came in for York and was greeted by a pair of singles and a stolen base, producing an immediate run. Jose Marmolejos’ single to right extended Spire City’s lead to 9-5 as the Revs faced a four-run deficit again.

Parker held down the Hounds from there, working four innings in relief and retiring 12 of his final 14 batters in his home debut. The rookie from York County capped his outing by stranding a runner at third with no outs in the ninth on a pop up, strike out, and comebacker.

Former Revs reliever Victor Capellan came in to protect a four-run lead in the ninth for Spire City, and quickly gave up two runs. January ignited the last-ditch rally with a triple off the left field wall and scored as Pantoja ripped an RBI single to right. Trent Giambrone reached on an error to bring the tying run to the plate.

With one out, righty Jeff Johnson was called upon.to stop the bleeding. Stokes Jr. drove in Pantoja with a sac fly to deep right that was caught against the fence, making it a 9-7 game. Drew Mendoza walked to bring the winning run to the plate, but the comeback bid fell short as Johnson got his first save of the season, recording a strikeout to end it.

The Revs have dropped three straight for the first time since a season-high six-game slide, June 17-24. The Revs had been 25-10 since and are on just their fourth set of consecutive losses since May 21 (43-21 prior to current skid).

York will look to salvage Sunday’s series finale at 2 p.m. as Nick Raquet (10-6, 3.80) faces John Witkowski (0-0, 6.92). Gastonia 9, Lexington 2

Gastonia scored six runs in the first two innings and went on to defeat Lexington 9-2 Saturday night at Gastonia. Luis Curbelo hit a solo homer for the Honey Hunters as Zach Mort improved to 10-2 on the season.

Southern Maryland 9, Charleston 1

Southern Maryland overcame an early 1-0 lead and built a 9-1 advantage through four innings and went on to a 9-1 win at home against Charleston. Khalil Lee hit a two-run homer in the first and finished the night with three RBI. Ian Kahaloa went seven innings and struck out eight while allowing just four hits in improving to 7-5 on the season.
