Bichette Jr. and Kubiak Earn Atlantic League Monthly Honors

Infielder named Player of the Month; Right-hander selected as Pitcher of the Month

(Lancaster, Pa., June 4, 2019) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) today announced the recipients of the league’s Player and Pitcher of the Month awards for April/May of 2019.

High Point Rockers infielder Dante Bichette Jr. has been named the Atlantic League’s Player of the Month. The former New York Yankees first round draft pick led the league with a .414 batting average, a .439 on-base percentage and 48 hits during April and May. He also ranked second in with a .999 OPS and fourth with a .560 slugging percentage. In 30 games, the Orlando native totaled three home runs, 20 RBIs, 21 runs, eight doubles, six walks and three stolen bases. Bichette Jr. is in his first Atlantic League season after seven seasons in the Yankees organization and one year with the Saint Paul Saints of the American Association.

Somerset Patriots right-handed starter David Kubiak has been chosen as the Atlantic League’s Pitcher of the Month. The 29-year-old led the league with a 0.95 ERA and tied for the league lead with four wins. In six starts, tied for the second-most in the league, he struck out 34 batters, which ranked sixth in the league. The Riverhead, N.Y. native surrendered just four runs on 25 hits and 12 walks over 38 innings of work and held opponents to a .185 batting average. Kubiak is in his third season with Somerset after making his ALPB debut in 2016 with the Bridgeport Bluefish.

“Dante and David were both outstanding as we began the 2019 Atlantic League season,” said Atlantic League President Rick White. “We had several tremendous individual performances over the first month of the season, but these two players stood out from the rest of the league with their performances.”
