Pair of Revolution Greats Returning to York

Perez and DePaula re-sign with York for 2016 season

(York, Pa., March 11, 2016) - The York Revolution have re-signed a pair of franchise greats, inking infielder Andres Perez and reliever Julio DePaula to contracts for the 2016 season. The signings were announced by manager Mark Mason during Friday’s airing of “Revs Hot Stove Weekly” on SportsRadio 1350 WOYK.

Perez returns to the Revolution for a fourth season, and enters the year as the franchise’s all-time leader in hits (466), extra-base hits (164), total bases (740), doubles (106), RBI (249), and games played (396), having eclipsed each of those marks during the 2015 season. Perez also ranks second in club history with 52 home runs, just seven shy of tying Chris Nowak’s all-time club record.

Named an Atlantic League All-Star at season’s end for the third time in as many seasons in a Revolution uniform, Perez has also been selected to the Atlantic League All-Star Game during each of his three seasons in York, and was named to the Revolution’s 10th Anniversary Team last month.

Tabbed as the team MVP a year ago, the 2015 season saw Perez lead the Atlantic League with 92 RBI, including a whopping 59 RBI over his final 54 games. He finished the year with 16 round-trippers and a league-high 33 doubles, pacing the league for the second time in three seasons. Perez also batted .291 including a .356 mark in his final 49 games.

The New York City native enters his 10th professional season and sixth in the Atlantic League, having also played for Newark and Bridgeport as well as spending time in the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations.

DePaula also holds a significant piece of Revolution history. After excelling as one of the Atlantic League’s top relievers during his first season with York in 2013, DePaula was dominant during the first half of the 2014 season, earning a contract with the Baltimore Orioles. It took just 11 days after signing with Baltimore for DePaula to earn a call-up to the Majors, marking the fastest ascension from York to MLB in Revolution franchise history. It also completed a seven-year big league comeback for DePaula, who pitched in 16 MLB games for the Minnesota Twins in 2007.

After originally signing with the Twins in 1999, DePaula pitched in the Minnesota organization through 2008. From there, the Dominican Republic native spent a year at Triple-A Durham with the Tampa Bay Rays, and two seasons in Korea before first coming to the Atlantic League with Bridgeport in 2012. The 33-year-old is 63-64 with 53 saves and a 3.65 ERA in his minor league career, including a 5-4 mark with three saves and a 2.86 ERA in 87 appearances with York. DePaula appeared in nine games for the Revs last season in between stints with Triple-A Reno (Arizona Diamondbacks) and the Mexican League.

The Revs now have 14 players under contract for the upcoming season, including 13 players who have previously called York home. The club will continue to unveil player signings each Friday on “Revs Hot Stove Weekly” on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and the WOYK mobile apps. Fans should tune in next Friday, March 18 at 6 p.m. for more player announcements.

The Revs will open the 2016 season on the road against the expansion New Britain Bees on Thursday, April 21. The club then kicks off its 10th anniversary season at home on Thursday, April 28 against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Full-season, partial season, mini plans, and individual tickets are on sale now at YorkRevolution.com.
