Barnstormers' Season Fundraiser Benefits Water Street Mission

One of the most prominent fundraising programs for the Lancaster Barnstormers during 2015 was the ‘Bacon Zone’ presented by the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council. During the Lancaster Barnstormers 2015 season, one seating section within Clipper Magazine Stadium was designated as the ‘Bacon Zone.’ With the purchase of a ticket in this section for any Barnstormers home game; fans received a discounted offer for pork products at any local grocery store. In addition, $1 from each ‘Bacon Zone’ ticket purchase was collected and donated to the Water Street Mission.

The Lancaster Barnstormers and the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council are proud to present a check to the Water Street Mission in the amount of $5,159 for the season long fundraiser.

The Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council represents and advocates on behalf of the state’s pig farmers and encourages consumers to “Be inspired” with pork. The Council provides education and resources to assist producers in providing a safe and wholesome pork product while upholding their commitment to animal well-being, the environment and their communities.

“Pennsylvania’s pig farmers were pleased to have partnered with the Lancaster Barnstormers and Water Street Mission this season,” shared Scott Augsburger, a Lancaster County pig farmer and Vice President of the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council.  “It was wonderful to see fans choosing the ‘Bacon Zone’ as the seats of their choice therefore supporting the important community programs offered by Water Street Mission.”

The Water Street Mission has been serving the homeless and hungry of Lancaster County since 1905 with the goal to provide comprehensive support to individuals who find themselves in the traumatic crisis of homelessness.

“Water Street Mission is grateful to our community partners who have extended a helping hand throughout the year, the Barnstormers and the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council among them.” Keith Shetter, Director of Donor Relations at the Mission said. “The ‘Bacon Zone’ at the ballpark sizzled with success this season and we hope it will continue in the future. Thank you for coming alongside Water Street in helping us better serve those in our community who are living in poverty.”

The Lancaster Barnstormers hope to see this promotion continue to grow from the success seen in just its first season. Vice President of Business Development, Vince Bulik, and everyone at the Barnstormers are very proud of how well the program took off.

“We could not be happier with how the program went in just its first year.” Bulik said “to be able to join together with the Pennsylvania Pork Producers Council on this creative initiative to raise donations for the Water Street Mission through Barnstormers baseball is incredible.”

The Lancaster Barnstormers are entering their twelfth season as a member of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball.  Home games are played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster, Pennsylvania.  Please call 717.509.HITS (4487) or visit LancasterBarnstormers.com for more information.

Over 40% of all Atlantic League players have Major League service time. Like MLB, Atlantic League clubs pay their players to win baseball games, not to apprentice as in baseball’s developmental levels. The following teams play in the Atlantic League: Bridgeport Bluefish, Lancaster Barnstormers, Long Island Ducks, Somerset Patriots, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Sugar Land Skeeters, and York Revolution.  New Britain, CT will join the league in 2016.
