Chamblee got the start for Charleston, seeking his second win of the season. His counterpart was Matt Solter, who was looking to earn his first win in a Gastonia uniform.

Charleston struck first in the second inning, as Scott Kelly chopped a pitch over the first base bag, scoring Edwin Espinal to open a 1-0 Dirty Birds lead.

Gastonia erupted for a three-run third frame, collecting four of their six hits for the game in the segment. Jack Reinheimer doubled home a pair of runs to give Gastonia a 2-1 lead. Zach Jarrett doubled home Reinheimer, upping the lead to 3-1.

In the ninth, Kevin Siegrist came on to earn the save for Charleston. Gastonia, however, would create a little drama in the frame.

Zach Jarrett led off the ninth with his 20th home run of the year, mashing a breaking pitch to left, trimming the lead to 5-4. Two batters later, Luis Castro would send a deep drive over the left field wall that just curled foul. The home run bid made for a breathless moment for the 5,000-plus fans that made it to the ballpark.

Castro would bounce back to the mound for the second out before Emmanuel Tapia struck out to end the game, sealing the win for Chamblee.
