York 6, Long Island 5

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 7, 2022) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 6-5 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Both teams traded zeroes until the top of the fifth inning when York plated three runs off Ducks starter Anderson DeLeon. RBI singles by Jack Kenley and Elmer Reyes along with an RBI double by Melky Mesa did the damage. The Ducks answered back with three runs of their own in the bottom of the frame off Revolution starter Jorge Martinez. Dustin Woodcock’s two-run double and Vladimir Frias’ RBI double tied the game at three.

The Revolution took the lead back in the seventh on a run-scoring error and a bases loaded walk by Josue Herrera. Long Island closed to within 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh on Rusney Castillo’s RBI single to center. A RBI single to center by Woodcock in the eighth tied the game at five. Carlos Franco put the Revolution back ahead for good in the ninth with a solo homer off the left field foul pole. 

Neither starter factored into the decision. DeLeon tossed five innings of three-run ball, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out six. Martinez pitched five and one-third innings, yielding three runs on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts. Josh Martin (1-0) picked up the win despite allowing a run on a hit and a walk in one inning of relief. Nick Goody (0-1) took the loss, conceding the winning run on one hit with two strikeouts in one inning. Jim Fuller collected his eighth save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Castillo led the Flock offensively with three hits and an RBI. Woodcock added two hits, three RBIs, a run and a walk. 

The Ducks and Revolution continue their three-game series on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s a Waddle In Wednesday at the ballpark! Fans will be able to purchase brand new Ducks Boonie Hats in the Waddle In Shop throughout the ballgame. Right-hander Akeel Morris (1-4, 6.81) takes the mound for the Ducks against Revolution righty Nick Travieso (1-2, 5.32).

Kentucky 11, High Point 3
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Genomes hit five home runs and held the High Point Rockers to just five hits as the Genomes posted an 11-3 win at Wild Health Field on Tuesday night. The Rockers led 3-1 in the third inning but were held hitless over the final six innings.

The Rockers fell to 28-13 on the season after suffering their fourth straight loss. Charleston tripped Gastonia (27-14) 7-5 on Tuesday night as High Point maintained a one-game lead in the Atlantic League South Division.

High Point took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with consecutive singles by Michael Martinez and Jay Gonzalez before Johnny Field drew a walk to load the bases. Martinez would score on a sacrifice fly by Chris Proctor.

High Point tallied a pair of runs in the third when, after again loading the bases, Martinez lifted a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Aklinski and giving High Point a 2-1 lead. Gonzalez followed with a seeing-eye grounder up the middle that scored Jerry Downs who had reached on a single.

Kentucky took the lead in the bottom of the third, using a double by Chris Shaw and back-to-back home runs from Samir Duenez and Chase Vallot for a 4-3 advantage.

Moises Sierra doubled home a run in the fourth to put the Genomes up 5-3. Kentucky then tallied three times in the fifth on a Felix Pie homer and an RBI single from Luke Becker.  Vallot would hit his second homer of the night, a two-run shot off reliever John Hayes, in the sixth for a 10-3 Kentucky advantage before Becker hit a solo homer in the seventh to account for the final score.

Becker and Vallot each finished with three RBI for the Genomes.

High Point starter Colt Webb (1-1) went 4.2 innings and gave up eight hits and eight runs while walking five and striking out one. Kentucky lefty Robbie Scott (3-3) pitched five innings and allowed all five hits while walking three and striking out three.

High Point and Kentucky will continue their three-game series at noon on Wednesday at Wild Health Field.

Southern Maryland 11, Lexington 8

(June 7, 2022, Waldorf, MD) The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs extend their winning streak to five games as they top the Lexington Legends 11-8 on a wet Tuesday evening. 

Denson Hull (W, 2-3) allowed four earned runs and six hits across five innings of work but pitched better as the start went along. 

The Lexington Legends started the scoring in the second inning.  Isaias Tejada led off with a solo home run to left field, giving the Legends a 1-0 lead.  Later in the inning, with Manuel Geraldo on second, Dominic Bethancourt ripped a double to right field, scoring Geraldo and giving the Legends a 2-0 start. 

In the third inning, the Legends continued to score.  Courtney Hawkins drove in a run on a double down the left-field line to extend the Legends’ lead to 3-0.  Lexington tacked on two more runs in the third, giving the Legends a 5-0 start. 

With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Jared Walked blasted a solo shot down the right-field line.  Alex Crosby then knocked a double into the right-field corner, putting a runner on second base with one out.  Two batters later, Ryan Haug blooped a triple into right field, scoring Haug to cut the deficit to 5-2. 

The Blue Crabs produced a massive eight-run fifth inning off of JJ Hoover (L, 2-5).  Michael Baca, Jack Sundberg, and Ian Yetsko loaded the bases to lead off the inning.  Joe Deluca got the Blue Crabs back on the board with a two-RBI single to right, cutting the deficit to 5-4.  The Blue Crabs added another run when Jared Walker punched an RBI single through the right side, tying the game. With runners on second and third, Alex Crosby sent a single to right, giving the Blue Crabs a 7-5 lead.  Braxton Lee then drove in Alex Crosby, extending the lead to 8-5.  Southern Maryland added two more runs in the inning, taking a 10-5 lead. 

In the seventh inning, the Legends answered with a solo blast from Courtney Hawkins, his 15^th of the year, tying the league lead in homers. 

In the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Crabs answered.  Matt Hibbert shot a double down the left-field line, giving the Blue Crabs an 11-6 lead. 

In the top of the eighth inning, with the bases loaded, Phillip Ervin lifted a single to shallow right-center, scoring two runs and cutting the Blue Crabs’ lead to 11-8.  In the ninth, Mat Latos (SV, 14) entered, shutting down the Legends in order, securing an 11-8 victory.  

With the win tonight, the Blue Crabs move to 31-10 and extend their winning streak to five games.  They have also won eight of their last nine contests.  Southern Maryland increases their divisional lead to 11.5 games over the second-place Long Island Ducks.  The Blue Crabs return for game two of the series tomorrow at 6:30 pm, as Southern Maryland goes for their sixth straight win.  

Charleston 7, Gastonia 5

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Charleston Dirty Birds and the Gastonia Honey Hunters met in Charleston on a gorgeous Tuesday evening for game 1 of the 3 game series.

On the mound for the Dirty Birds was Jordan Stephens who came into the game with a 1-3 record and a 5.44 ERA. On the other side, Gastonia threw lefty Michael Gunn, who stood at 2-0 with a 4.91 ERA on the 2022 season.

After a 1-2-3 1st inning from Jordan Stephens, the Dirty Birds went straight to work as they commanded a 2-0 lead on a Juan Perez 2 run double that scored Anfernee Seymour and Engel Beltre.

Stephens went on to retire 6 batters in a row in the 2nd and 3rd innings, making it 9 straight batters retired through 3. Then in the bottom half, after an Anfernee Seymour bunt single, Engel Beltre smashed a ball over the right field wall making it 4-0 Charleston.

Jordan Stephens went on to pitch 3 more innings and gave up 0 runs on 1 hit with 4 K's in 6 innings pure dominance.

Gastonia was able to plate 1 run in the 7th on a sac fly from Zach Jarret. Then in the 8th inning, with the bases loaded Rayder Ascanio hit a bases clearing double and ended up scoring on a throwing error giving the Honey Hunters the 5-4 lead.

In the bottom half of the 8th, Alfredo Gonzalez took matters into his own hands and belted a no doubt 2-run homer to left. This gave Charleston the 6-5 lead, but they were not done yet. Zack Kone hit a double down the right field line and Scott Burcham reached on an error allowing Kone to score.

In the top of the 9th inning the Dirty Birds Closer Tyler Wilson came in and ended the game on a 1-2-3 inning. This marked Wilson's 17 consecutive scoreless inning this year.

The Dirty Birds improve to 18-23 as they have won 3 of the last 4 games.

Staten Island 6, Lancaster 4

LANCASTER, PA– Ben Ruta finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and a stolen base, helping to spearhead a 6-4 come-from-behind victory against the Barnstormers Tuesday night at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Trailing 4-3, the FerryHawks plated three runs in the top of the seventh before recording the final nine outs for the franchise’s second road victory.  

Staten Island hopped in front early in their first trip to Lancaster, utilizing the franchise’s first-ever back-to-back home runs. Ben Ruta launched a solo home run over the right-field fence in the first inning to put Staten Island ahead 1-0. Angel Aguilar followed with his team-leading sixth home run of the season, putting the FerryHawks ahead 2-0. 

Nick Carrell allowed four runs in his third start of the season, allowing a first-inning tally on Andretty Cordero’s run-scoring single.   

The FerryHawks added to their one-run lead in the fourth inning playing some small ball. Alfredo Reyes kickstarted the inning with a double and was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Javier Betancourt. Ben Ruta collected his second hit and RBI with a single to score Reyes, making it 3-1 FerryHawks. 

A Colton Shaver solo blast in the home half of the fourth again sliced the FerryHawks lead to just one. The catcher’s sixth home run of the season made it a 3-2 game. 

In Carrell’s fifth and final inning, the Barnstormers rallied for two runs to take a brief 4-3 advantage. A two-out single by LeDarious Clark allowed the Atlantic League’s home run leader Kelly Dugan to the dish. He blasted his 16^thhome run, a two-run shot, over the right-field fence to vault the Barnstormers ahead. 

Facing Tyler Suellentrop to start the seventh, the FerryHawks turned the game around by sending eight batters to the plate and scoring a trio of runs. Ben Ruta walked and then scored immediately on Angel Aguilar’s double, his third extra-base hit of the night. John Nester kept the inning alive with a two-out knock, before back-to-back errors on Barnstormers shortstop Jake Hoover pushed home Aguilar and Nester to give the FerryHawks a 6-4 lead.  

Sullentrop (2-1) recorded two outs, allowing three runs (one earned) with two strikeouts.  

Eddy Reynoso (2-2) was first out of the bullpen for the FerryHawks, tossing a scoreless sixth inning. 

Eric Marinez and Williams Ramirez picked up holds for tossing scoreless seventh and eighth innings. Victor Capellan earned the save when Clark, representing the tying run, flew out to Ruta in deep left field to end the game.
