FerryHawks Announce Ballpark Naming Deal

(April 1, 2022) Staten Island, New York- The Staten Island FerryHawks in conjunction with their new naming rights partner, Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health, will rename their new home Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health “Community Park”.

On Friday, April 1st, Staten Island’s only professional baseball team and Staten Island’s leader in healthcare, merged to create a special place for the community to call home. Community Park will not only be the home ballpark for the Staten Island FerryHawks baseball team, but the home to Concerts, Youth Sports, College Events, and numerous outside activities year round.

“Our vision from day one was to align ourselves with a partner who cared for the community as passionately as we do, and Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health is just that,” said John Catsimatidis, FerryHawks Chairman. “The partnership between the FerryHawks and Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health will allow us to take the community and its ballpark to new heights.”

“Staten Islanders are not fair-weather fans. They’re die-hards when it comes to supporting their home team,” explained Dr. Brahim Ardolic, SIUH’s Executive Director. “Baseball is part of the American spirit, and for Staten Island University Hospital to be a part of bringing this pastime back to the borough just adds to the physical, mental and economic health of the community.”

As the stadium prepares for its first wave of fans, media and officials were able to see the extensive work being done to the stadium and the new turf field being installed. With the $10 million renovations on display, the message was clear that Staten Island is ready for a venue that will capture the excitement and charisma that Staten Island brings.

"Staten Island University Hospital is the perfect partner for the FerryHawks,” said FerryHawk President, Eric Shuffler. “They are community focused and share our vision of utilizing the ballpark as a year round sports, entertainment and community complex.”

The FerryHawks and Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health have not only created a rally back for baseball on the island, but a movement to rejuvenate the area and have it become the Downtown District of Staten Island. With the incorporation of family fun into the ballpark as well as the inclusion of local restaurants and breweries, this significant partnership made it evident that the FerryHawks are a pillar of this community.

“Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health has demonstrated that they share our values in health, children and the Staten Island Community,” said FerryHawk General Manager, Gary Perone. “I look forward to working alongside Dr. Ardolic, John Demoleas and the staff of Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health and welcoming all of Staten Island to its newly renovated playground, Community Park."

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) has had a significant role in helping the organization's vision come to life. Being granted the lease of the ballpark and the support of the facilities around it, the NYCEDC has made it possible for the FerryHawks to create a new dynamic for Staten Island and rewrite the history of professional baseball on it.

“NYCEDC congratulates the Staten Island Ferry Hawks and Staten Island University Hospital/Northwell Health on the new stadium name,” said NYCEDC President and CEO Andrew Kimball. “The renovation of the stadium is one more way NYCEDC is working to advance Mayor Adams’ commitment to restarting our City’s economic engines. The stadium will not only serve athletes but be used for youth and school sports and be a venue for concerts and events. We look forward to celebrating the Ferry Hawks home opener on Tuesday, May 3rd."

Staten Island University Hospital / Northwell Health “Community Park” will make its premier on May 3rd when the FerryHawks take on the Lexington Legends for their first home game of the season.
