National Girls and Women in Sports Day has ALPB flavor

MLB will celebrate National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) on Wednesday, February 1st with youth activations at MLB Youth Academies across the U.S., as well as Chelsea Piers in New York City, which will be followed by a special panel discussion and networking opportunity at the Commissioner’s Office.

Led by MLB’s Baseball & Softball Development department, youth-focused activations, including “PLAY BALL” events, will be held at eight of the U.S.-based MLB Youth Academies (Cincinnati, Compton, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, New Orleans, Philadelphia & Washington D.C.) with special guests including Natasha Watley at the Compton Youth Academy and Mo’ne Davis at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy. Activations at both the Houston Astros and Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy will take place at a later date due to inclement weather. The Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy will feature special guest Lauren Chamberlain during their rescheduled event on February 15th.

In New York City, MLB will host a PLAY BALL event at Chelsea Piers with MLB Youth Softball Ambassador Jennie Finch, Hillsboro Hops Manager Ronnie Gajownik, and Fordham University softball athletes.

A career networking and panel discussion event will be held for invited student-athletes at the Commissioner’s Office in Midtown Manhattan, in coordination with MLB’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion department, MLB Network, and MLB’s Employee Resource Groups (ERG). Attendees are slated to include MLBDevelops Girls Baseball alumna Alexia Jorge and over 75 college softball players.
