Bryce Weiler was born blind but that hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his passion for sports broadcasting. He relies on his other senses to comment on the action.

“When I’m commentating a baseball game, sometimes I can hear the umpire call a pitch a ball or a strike so I don’t have to stop what I’m saying,” said Weiler.

Bryce has developed a close relationship with Bees play-by-play broadcaster Mike Mohr, who describes the action and then lets Bryce provide the analysis.

“It really is something that he makes look easy and it’s very difficult,” said Mohr.

Weiler has an outstanding knowledge of the game which he compliments with his intense work ethic.

“I read articles on every player, looking them up on the internet, finding facts about their life like what obstacles and challenges they’ve overcome,” Weiler said.

“There’s so much preparation that goes into a broadcast and he just does everything that’s necessary,” added Mohr.

“When I’m on the radio, I just want to be able to give back to all of the people that helped me be able to enjoy sports,” said Bryce.

One way he does that is through his non-profit, the Beautiful Lives Project, which makes playing and watching sports more accessible for people with disabilities.

“Any person can accomplish whatever they set their mind to, whether it be something in sports or something outside of sports,” said Weiler.

Bryce is an inspiration to everyone he meets, including his broadcasting partner.

“I’m chasing my dream also and I feel like watching Bryce’s lead, it allows me to know that I can continue pursuing working the game that I love so very much,” said Mohr.

“People have always told me in my life that I can’t do things,” added Weiler. “I’ve realized that I have to do most of it myself and keep a positive spirit because if I’m negative about what I’m doing, other people with special needs and challenges might not try their hardest to live their goals and their dreams. That’s why I try to be positive on a daily basis.”
