ALPB Teams to Host Prostate Cancer Awareness Tour![]() The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB), the nation’s most progressive independent league, today announced that all eight of its teams will participate in the 9th annual Prostate Cancer Awareness Tour with Ed Randall's Fans for The Cure. ALPB teams will host Prostate Cancer Awareness and Education Nights on the following dates:
"Prostate cancer has a 96-97% cure rate… if it is caught early, and I am living proof of that," said Ed Randall, longtime sports broadcaster and founder and CEO of Fans for the Cure, the country's leading prostate cancer awareness organization. "The exposure provided by the all eight Atlantic League teams will help us reach thousands of men at risk of the disease. If we help save just one life through these events, it will be worth it." "Every man over 40 years of age should have a conversation with his primary care physician about his personal risk for prostate cancer," Randall added. "A regular test consisting of a physical examination of the prostate and a simple PSA blood test is recommended." One in every six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men, and almost every male is at some degree of risk of contracting it. A man is 33% more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is breast cancer. "As in hitting a baseball, early recognition of the pitch (PSA Test), means success in hitting the ball hard (stopping Prostate Cancer)," said Los Angeles Dodgers great Steve Garvey, a prostate cancer survivor and Chairman of Fans for the Cure. "We are proud to partner with Ed Randall's Fans for the Cure, a volunteer-driven organization, at all of the Atlantic League teams' home stadiums," said Rick White, President of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. "Fans for the Cure will be present at nearly 175 games -- including eight Atlantic League games this season. I want to thank Ed Randall for his tireless efforts to educate men about prostate cancer and am pleased that we can offer vital information about the disease to our fans." Ed Randall's Fans for the Cure organization seeks to save lives by increasing awareness of prostate cancer and the life-saving value of early detection while providing education about cutting-edge research to reduce risk, detect, and treat prostate cancer. Like MLB, Atlantic League clubs pay their players to win baseball games, not to apprentice as in baseball’s developmental levels. The following teams play in the Atlantic League: Bridgeport Bluefish, Camden Riversharks, Lancaster Barnstormers, Long Island Ducks, Somerset Patriots, Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, Sugar Land Skeeters, and York Revolution. |
