Atlantic League to introduce Silver Anniversary Team

As the Atlantic League prepares for its 25th Championship Season, each of its ten Member Clubs selected an elite group of former players to comprise the official ALPB Silver Anniversary team. A total of 25 players were selected to commemorate the league’s first quarter century. The original list of 162 nominees was comprised of former Players of the Year, Pitchers of the Year, League Championship MVPs, All-Stars and record holders. The final result was a list of the 25 most talented players to ever grace an Atlantic League ballpark.

The Silver Anniversary roster is made up of 16 position players and nine pitchers, including six starters and three relievers. Their credentials are impeccable. The hitters combined for a .295 career batting average, a .477 slugging percentage and an OPS of .844. With 124 years of service in the Atlantic League, hitters slugged 1,553 home runs, drove in 6,753 runs and accounted for 4,062 extra-base hits.

The starting pitchers won 263 games with a combined ERA of 3.90. Relievers recorded 423 saves with a 3.02 ERA and averaged nearly a strikeout per inning pitched.

At least one member of this select group was active in each of the Atlantic League’s first 24 seasons. They include those who played in the league’s inaugural year in 1998 to those who dotted ALPB line-ups in 2022.

A number of the honorees earned Major League service time. Many reached at least the Class AAA level with affiliated clubs. Some were drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft. A handful had their first taste of professional baseball as undrafted free agents. Of the 25 honored players, 24 were named to at least one Atlantic League Postseason All-Star Team.

The Silver Anniversary team includes six League Championship Series MVPs, 11 Players of the Year, eight Pitchers of the Year, and two players who were on opening day rosters when the league threw its first pitch in 1998.

Over the course of the next 12 weeks, the 25th Anniversary Team will be revealed one at a time on the ALPB website and social media channels as well as the same platforms of each Atlantic League club. Please visit each week to see which fan favorite players made the Silver Anniversary roster.

Most of all, the Atlantic League hopes fans enjoy and remember 25 elite players who helped to make the Atlantic League the premier non-affiliated professional baseball league in North America.

Please note: Throughout its history, the Atlantic League has proudly hosted hundreds of former and future Major League Baseball players. The ALPB frequently cites the accomplishments of these players. In addition to these gifted players, the Silver Anniversary team celebrates those players whose ALPB careers were extraordinary in their own right.
