Lancaster 10, Lexington 2

LANCASTER, Pa. - All of the elements came together for the Lancaster Barnstormers on Friday evening.

Lancaster rapped out eight extra base hits, and four right-handers combined on a three-hitter as the host club defeated the Lexington Legends, 10-2, in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Andretty Cordero snapped a 2-2 tie with a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the fifth, but it was in the seventh inning that Lancaster broke the game open.  Kelly Dugan led off with a single off the glove of first baseman Isaias Tejeda.  Henry Owens struck out the next two, but the inning was extended with a walk to Trayvon Robinson.  Dennicher Cordero drilled a triple into the left field corner for a 6-2 lead.  Following another walk to Anthony Peroni, Jake Hoover also ripped a liner down the left field line, his going for a two-run double.  Shawon Dunston, Jr. capped the inning with a triple to right center.

Robinson added an RBI double in the eighth.

Dugan opened the scoring with his league-leading 17th homer of the season, a two-out solo shot onto the right field tent in the first off Bruce Bell (0-1).  Blake Swihart answered with a two-run homer lined onto the deck toward right center in the third for the only two runs in five innings off Nile Ball (2-3).

Cordero tied the game in the bottom of the third, following a two-out walk to Dugan with a sinking liner to center which skipped past T.K. Koontz for a double, allowing the run to score from first.

Erik Manoah fired two perfect relief innings for the Barnstormers.  Tyler Suellentrop and Donald Goodson added one apiece as the Barnstormers retired the last 14 Legends hitters.

Brooks Hall makes his return to Lancaster for the start on Saturday.  Fireworks will follow the game.  Fans may also tune into the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, starting at 6:25.

NOTES:  Lexington entered the game short-handed and coming off a doubleheader at Southern Maryland that ended at 2:01 AM Friday…Three of the four pitchers used by the Legends were signed during the day on Friday…Cordero extended his hitting streak to 10…Lancaster finished the night with three triples, three doubles and two homers…Manoah has retired all nine batters he has faced in the Atlantic League, striking out five…Suellentrop was one pitch from an “immaculate” inning but needed 12 pitches to strike out the side in the eighth…Dugan leads the league by two in the home run department over Courtney Hawkins of Lexington and Carlos Franco of York.

 

Staten Island 1, Long Island 0

(Staten Island, N.Y., June 10, 2022) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Staten Island FerryHawks 1-0 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park. 

Neither starter factored into the decision. Stephen Tarpley fired seven scoreless innings for the Ducks, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 10 batters. Anthony Rodriguez lasted five innings for the FerryHawks, yielding no runs on three hits and five walks with two strikeouts. 

The only run of the ballgame scored in the bottom of the ninth. Staten Island loaded the bases with two outs on two infield singles and a walk before Yunior Santana’s RBI single to center field won it the FerryHawks. 

Eddy Reynoso (3-2) earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief, yielding a hit while striking out two. Kai-Wei Lin (0-1) suffered the loss, conceding the winning run on three hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning with two strikeouts. 

The Ducks and FerryHawks continue their three-game series on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at SIUH Community Park. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Right-hander Scott Harkin (3-3, 4.60) takes the mound for the Ducks against FerryHawks righty Nick Carrell (0-1, 8.10). 

Long Island returns home on Friday, June 17, to begin a three-game set with the Wild Health Genomes. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Beach Towels, courtesy of Enzo. It’s also an Angela’s Pizza Friday! A player on the Genomes will be designated as the K-Man, and if he strikes out during the game, all fans can show their game ticket to receive a special offer throughout the rest of the weekend at Angela’s Pizzeria of Islip

 

Gastonia 7, High Point 6
 

GASTONIA, N.C. – The High Point Rockers jumped out to a 6-0 lead over Gastonia on Friday night but the Honey Hunters rallied to take a 7-6 decision at CaroMont Health Park.

The loss was High Point’s seventh straight. Now with a 28-16 record, the Rockers are two games behind Atlantic League South Division-leading Gastonia at 30-14.

The Rockers came out swinging in the first inning, tallying six runs for a quick 6-0 lead. With one out, Ben Aklinski doubled and scored on a Jerry Downs single. Quincy Latimore singled and Logan Morrison drew a walk to load the bases. Tyler Ladendorf grounded out to force home a run and a Michael Russell infield ground ball produced a third run. With two on, Mike Gulino slammed his first home run of the season to complete the first inning scoring.

High Point starter Craig Stem kept the Honey Hunters off the board through the first four innings, allowing just three hits. But Gastonia tallied six times in the fifth, using five singles, a double, a wild pitch and a hit batter to draw within one run. Jake Reinheimer, Rayder Ascanio and Emmanuel Tapia had run-scoring singles for Gastonia and Luis Castro added an RBI double. Another run scored on a Stem wild pitch.

John Hayes (L, 2-1) came on in the sixth for High Point and lead-off hitter Zach Jarrett singled then stole second and third. After a pair of strikeouts, Herlis Rodriguez singled to right to bring home Jarrett with the go-ahead run.

The Rockers had one final chance, putting two runners on with one out in the ninth but Gastonia’s Jesus Balaguer extinguished the fire in earning his eighth save of the season.

Gastonia’s Marcus Walden (W, 3-0) sent seven innings and allowed four hits while striking out three.

High Point and Gastonia will play again on Saturday at 6:15 p.m. at CaroMont Health Park.

NOTES: Prior to the game the Rockers activated INF Tyler Ladendorf, C Mike Gulino and LHP Bryce Hensley off of the Injured List. Craig Stem was activated from the Inactive List. High Point released three players: C Yuta Okazaki, RHP Gavin Heltemes and OF Liam Scafariello.

 

Southern Maryland 7, Charleston 1

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Charleston Dirty Birds and the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs squared off at Appalachian Power Park for game 1 of the series on an a misty night in Charleston.

On the mound for the Dirty Birds was RHP Max Tannenbaum who went to work against Southern Maryland's LHP Mckenzie Mills.

The Blue Crabs jumped out in from early in the top of the first thanks to a sacrifice fly from Jared Walker allowing Michael Wielansky to score making it 1-0 from the jump.

Southern Maryland added to their lead in the 3rd as they struck for 3 more runs on a pair of hits from David Harris and Alex Crosby followed by a Braxton Lee sacrifice fly.

Southern Maryland scored 3 more runs the very next inning increasing their lead to 7.

Charleston was able to score 1 run in the 9th after Tyler Blaum doubled to lead off the inning. Diego Gorius then drove Blaum in to make the score 7-1.

Charleston ended up losing game 1 against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-1 as they fall to 18-25 on the year.

 

York 8, Kentucky 3

(June 10, 2022 – Lexington, KY):  Troy Stokes Jr. enjoyed a four-hit night, Yefri Perez homered for the second straight game, and Duke von Schamann turned in six strong innings as the York Revolution capped a lengthy travel day with an 8-3 victory over the Kentucky Wild Health Genomes on Friday night at Wild Health Field.  The victory capped a day of overnight travel continuing a road trip that started at Long Island, as the Revs even their record on the trip to 2-2.

Stokes Jr. smacked the second pitch of the game down the third base line for a leadoff double and after advancing to third on a JC Encarnacion single, scored on a deep sac fly to right by Nellie Rodriguez for the game’s first run.

Samir Duenez homered to left in the bottom of the second, tying the game at 1-1, but that was the only run allowed by von Schamann (2-2) in a season-high six innings, as he surrendered just five hits and none after the third inning to pick up the win.

The Revs went back ahead in the third as Edwin Figuera led off with a double to deep center and moved to third when Perez reached on an error.  That set the scene as Perez stole second, drawing an errant throw from Genomes catcher Carlos Castro which allowed Figuera to trot home with a 2-1 lead.

The Revs built a cushion with three runs in the fifth.  Connor Lien led off with a base hit and stole second, scoring on a one-out single up the middle by Stokes Jr.  Perez followed by cranking a two-run homer out to right, his third in his last seven games, as the lead swelled to 5-1.

Perez and Rodriguez drew bases loaded walks in the eighth, extending the advantage to 7-1.

Jimmy Paredes homered to right-center in the bottom of the eighth, shrinking the lead to 7-2.

Stokes Jr. (4-for-5) capped off his huge night with an RBI single to right in the top of the ninth for the Revs’ eighth run.

Moises Sierra punched a run-scoring infield single past the second base bag in the bottom of the ninth to close out the scoring with a non-consequential run.

York righty Eduardo Rivera faces Kentucky’s Elih Villanueva on Saturday at 6:35 p.m.
