John Anderson got the ball for Gastonia, seeking his third win of the season. The southpaw would work against another lefthander, Mitch Lambson. Lambson pitched a complete game shutout last Wednesday in Waldorf, Maryland.

Both clubs scratched runs across in the first, as Ian Yestko scored on a wild pitch to give the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead.

Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Joseph Rosa walked, scoring Rayder Ascanio to give the Honey Hunters a 4-3 lead.

In the ninth, Southern Maryland would get a leadoff double from Raul Shah to give the Blue Crabs immediate hope. The next batter, Braxton Lee, reached on a fielding error to put runners on the corners.

Gastonia manager Mauro Gozzo lifted pitcher Sam Bordner for Jesus Balaguer.

Austin Rei singled to left, scoring Shah and leveling the game at 4-4. Two batters later, Matt Hibbert would come to the plate with a chance to put Southern Maryland on top.
