Harbor Yard, home of the Bridgeport Bluefish, was the first new, fully completed ballpark in the Atlantic League’s first year of play. Built in 1997-98 with 5,500 seats, the State of Connecticut and City of Bridgeport each contributed $8 million to Harbor Yard’s $19 million cost. The remaining $3 million was contributed by the original Bluefish ownership group. El Nino contributed a very mild winter so the Bluefish could open on schedule and on budget.

The Bluefish have played in the postseason five of the 11 seasons of Atlantic League play. The Bluefish won the Atlantic League championship in 1999 and still hold the record for the most wins by any team in Atlantic League history.

In October 2008, it was announced that Atlantic League CEO Frank Boulton had purchased the Bluefish from their former ownership group and taken over day-to-day operations of the club. In addition to his duties as league CEO, Mr. Boulton serves as the principal owner of the Long Island Ducks. The organization has led all of independent baseball in attendance over its nine year history, including an average attendance of 6,040 fans this past season. The Ducks have averaged 101.5% capacity at 6,002-seat Citibank Park since the ballpark opened in 2000. The Ducks were named the 2007 Independent Organization of the Year by Baseball America, and have qualified for postseason play five consecutive years.
