“We’re looking forward to the beginning of our 11th season and welcoming Southern Maryland to the Atlantic League,” says league founder and CEO Frank Boulton. “With eight quality organizations playing an expanded 140-game schedule, the league has never been better and 2008 promises to be our best season yet.”
Opening Night will be Friday, April 25. The expansion Blue Crabs will visit the 2007 South Division champion Somerset Patriots at Commerce Bank Ballpark to begin their first campaign in the Atlantic League. In another marquee matchup, the Long Island Ducks will host the defending league champion Newark Bears at Citibank Park in a rematch of last year’s North Division playoffs. Elsewhere, the Lancaster Barnstormers will welcome the Bridgeport Bluefish to Clipper Magazine Stadium, and the York Revolution pay a visit to Campbell’s Field to square off against the Camden Riversharks.
The first half of the season ends July 7. The league will hold the All-Star Break the following week, with the All-Star Game being played at Commerce Bank Ballpark in Somerset on Wednesday, July 16. Second half play will resume on Friday, July 18, and continue until Sunday, September 21. The first and second half winners from each division will match up in the playoffs, which begin on Tuesday, September 23.
Southern Maryland replaces the Road Warriors as the eighth team in the league, and will open its brand new ballpark, Regency Furniture Stadium, on Friday, May 2, with a game against Lancaster.
