Bridgewater, NJ – The 2007 South Division Champion Somerset Patriots have been honored with Atlantic League Post Season Awards.
Left-handed starting pitcher Brian Adams has been named the 2007 Pitcher of the Year, as well as the Left-Handed Starter of the Year.
Adams finished the 2007 regular season with a 15-2 record, a 3.68 ERA, and 117 strikeouts in 156 innings pitched. The 15 wins were the best in the Atlantic League this season and a new Somerset Patriots team record for a single season. Adams finished second in the league in strikeouts and fourth in innings pitched.
Adams is only the second Patriots pitcher to receive the honors, joining Justin Jensen, who received both awards in 1999.
Center fielder Mike Lockwood was announced to the Post Season All-Star Team. Lockwood finished the regular season with a .278 batting average, 90 runs scored, 129 hits, 14 doubles, and a team high 23 home runs and 92 RBI. Lockwood finished fifth in the league in home runs and runs scored.
“We are very happy for Brian and Mike. They both had terrific seasons for us and we wouldn’t be going for our fourth championship without them. Brian had one of the best performances this league has seen from any pitcher in its history and is truly deserving of this award,” said Patrick McVerry, President/ General Manager of the Somerset Patriots.
Commerce Bank Ballpark was selected as the 2007 Atlantic League Park of the Year. The Patriots welcomed 371,520 fans throughout the regular season and average 5,307 fans per game. Entering the team’s Tenth Season Celebration, the Patriots added new features to the ballpark, including a bar called The Handle Bar, a Wall of Fame, and redesigned all 20 luxury suites.
“We are extremely proud to be recognized as the Park of the Year. There are some great ballparks that have been added over the past few years, so we are thrilled to receive this honor in our tenth season in the league,” said McVerry.
The Somerset Patriots 10th Anniversary Season presented by Ford will continue at home with Game 1 of the Atlantic League Championship Series versus the Newark Bears on Friday, September 21st at 7:05 pm.
