ATLANTIC LEAGUE PLAYOFF MATCHUPS SET Postseason chase begins September 1809/11/2007
(Camden, N.J., Sep. 11, 2007) – With just one week remaining in what has been an unforgettable regular season, the 2007 Atlantic League playoff matchups are set. The Newark Bears will matchup against the Long Island Ducks for supremacy in the North Division, while the Somerset Patriots and Camden Riversharks hook up in an all-Garden State South Division showdown.
The Atlantic League playoffs begin on Tuesday, September 18. In the North Division, first half champion Newark hosts Long Island in Game One at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium at 7:05 p.m. Game Two takes place the next night at Citibank Park on Long Island at 6:35 p.m. If the teams split the first two games, a deciding Game Three will be held on Thursday, September 20, at Citibank Park, beginning at 6:35 p.m.
Meanwhile, second-half South champion Somerset welcomes Camden on September 18 to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. Game One start. The teams matchup at Campbell’s Field in Camden for Game Two and a possible Game Three, with both games slated to begin at 7:05 p.m.
The weekend will kick off with the start of the tenth Atlantic League Championship Series. The first two games, to be played on Friday, September 21, and Saturday, September 22, will take place in the ballpark of the South Division champion at 7:05 p.m. Game three will shift to the North winner’s home field on Sunday, September 23. If necessary, game four and the decisive game five will be played on Monday, September 24, and Tuesday, September 25, at either Long Island or Newark.
Both divisional matchups pit teams with differing recent playoff histories against each other. The Bears have reached the playoffs for the first time since the team’s lone championship season in 2002. They will matchup against a Ducks franchise that set a league record this season by qualifying for a fourth consecutive postseason appearance. Long Island won its sole league championship at the beginning of this run in 2004. The Patriots, the only team in league history to win more than one title, will be seeking a fourth championship in seven seasons, while the Riversharks will be chomping toward their first title in the team’s seven-year history.
Below is the complete 2007 Atlantic League postseason schedule. In just two weeks, one team will have emerged from these final four to hoist the trophy as 2007 Atlantic League champion!
