NEWARK, NJ – August 27, 2007 – The First-Half North Division Champion Newark Bears Professional Baseball Club have announced that the Road Warriors, the Atlantic League’s traveling team, will serve as the home team in Tuesday evening’s game at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
The Road Warriors, a team owned and operated by the Atlantic League to balance the league’s two divisions, will play as the home side to commemorate what is expected to be their final game in Newark. They will be replaced in 2008 by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. As the home team, the Road Warriors will get a chance to do something they have not done in the 606 games they have played from 2002 to 2004 and 2006 to the present—bat in the bottom-half of each inning.
“We thought it was appropriate after their years of being a visiting team that we give them a home send off,” said Bears’ General Manager John Brandt. “And it is my hope that they have to bat last because we are winning.”
Gates will open at 4:05 PM for the 5:05 PM contest that will see Bears’ left-hander Jeriome Robertson (3-3) face Road Warriors’ righty Kieran Mattison (1-1).
