(Central Islip, N.Y., June 15, 2007) – Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the contract of shortstop Derek Wathan was purchased by the Kansas City Royals organization. Wathan will report to Omaha (AAA, Royals) of the Pacific Coast League.
”Derek was a valuable contributor to our team,” says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. “We wish him the best in his next step.”
Wathan hit .264 with three home runs and 13 RBI in 36 games with the Ducks this season, his first in the Atlantic League. In 958 career minor league games, he has 43 home runs, 385 RBI, and 85 stolen bases.
