The Riversharks picked up two postseason Atlantic League awards on Thursday, as outfielder Wayne Lydon was named to the 2009 end of season All Star Team, and General Manager Adam Lorber was selected as the General Manager of the Year.
Lydon’s inclusion in the All Star Team certainly comes as no surprise, as he paced the Riversharks both offensively and defensively this season. He started all but one of the team’s 140 games, and compiled a .273 batting average, while driving in 54 runs. Lydon also led the league in stolen bases with 72, and triples with 13. His 99 runs scored and 148 hits were good enough for second and third highest in the league, respectively.
“Wayne made life so much easier on all of us,” said Riversharks acting manager, Jeff Scott. “His consistency throughout the season, his defense, his hustle, and his ability to manufacture runs with his speed made him one of the best weapons in our league. I’m extremely proud of him and very happy to see his efforts rewarded.”
The Riversharks other post season award was given to Adam Lorber, who was named the General Manager of the Year. The 2009 season marked his fifth year as the Riversharks’ General Manager, and first time winning the award.
“It’s truly an honor to be named the General Manager of the Year. But, this award says more about our entire staff than it does about me,” Lorber said. “It’s because of their hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that we were able to have one of our best seasons yet. Despite the tough economic times, we actually saw our average attendance increase this year, and that is a testament to our entire front office,” he added.
