Southington native tossed 19 scoreless innings over three starts

(New Britain, Conn., May 6, 2016) – New Britain Bees team officials today announced that starting pitcher Nick Greenwood has had his contract purchased by the Minnesota Twins organization. He will report to the Chattanooga Lookouts (AA).

“Greenwood had an excellent start for us and, we’re very excited for him,” said Bees Manager Stan Cliburn. “We wish him the absolute best with the Twins organization.”

Greenwood made three appearances with the Bees, tallying 19 scoreless innings and striking out 17 batters. The Southington, Connecticut native was the Atlantic League leader earned run average. With his signing, Bees starter Cole Johnson takes over as the active league leader in ERA (0.47).

A 14th round draft pick by the San Diego Padres in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, the 6-foot-1, 180 lbs. Greenwood appeared in 20 games with the St. Louis Cardinals during the 2014-15 seasons before signing with the Bees. Greenwood, 28, spent parts of five years at the AAA level across eight professional seasons after graduating from the University of Rhode Island.

Greenwood is the second Bees player to have his contract purchased during the 2016 Inaugural Bees season, following Eric Fornataro, whose contract was purchased by the Baltimore Orioles.
